This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The installation rests in the beautiful 'hill and lake' country of Central Texas between Killeen and Copperas Cove.

Duties

Reads electrical wiring diagrams to complete repairs. Install, maintain, and inspect vehicle traffic control system components, conventional and solar powered warning sign systems. Install and/or repair electronic circuit boards, electronic solid-state controls, circuits, electrical wiring, electric control circuits, and miscellaneous electrical. Troubleshoot, repair or replace conventional and intelligent fire alarm systems such as control panels, transceivers, pull stations, heat detectors, smoke detectors, duct detectors and associated wiring. Maintains Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) and Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) fire reporting system used to transmit fire alarm and system trouble status locations to Central fire station dispatch.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • The employee may be required to use safety equipment such as: safety shoes, gloves, aprons, safety glasses, goggles, hearing protectors, or any other safety equipment that will preclude personal injury.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to distinguish colors and shades of colors.
  • During the course of daily work, if an infestation is found in electronic components an insecticide will be applied to eliminate the problem and prevent future infestation.
  • This position requires incumbent to work an on-call work schedule to respond to after-hours emergencies. This may include, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electronics Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common electronics work. I can repair and/or replace a variety of electronic equipment and follow simple layout diagrams or work instructions. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Light to moderate physical effort is required. Employee frequently lifts and carries up to 40 pounds. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Work requires sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, reaching, and working in cramped or awkward positions. Occasionally, work in high places may be required. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Subject to injuries such as electric shock, cuts, bruises, or burns. Work may be performed in high places or outside in inclement weather.
