Employee will be assigned to Environmental Management Service, VA Health Care System, San Diego, CA (La Jolla Facility). Employee will be responsible for planning, implementing, and carrying out a complete and comprehensive integrated pest management program for the Medical Center.
Duties
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
Performs interior and exterior pest control measures in all areas of the facility and campus.
Consults with pest management officials such as federal, state, and local environmental health specialists and entomologists in areas of program development or special needs.
Develops and maintains survey and treatment schedules, conducts follow-up inspections to locate evidence of infestation, and selects materials and equipment to apply insecticides, rodenticides, fungicides, germicides, etc.
Maintains service records and data on infestation, type of treatment applied, results achieved, and existing conditions which may encourage infestation.
Has a thorough knowledge of pests including ants, flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches, mice, rats, termites, ticks, fleas, etc. including their physical characteristics, life cycles, habits, reproduction patters, and hiding areas within the facility.
Determines and dispenses agents to control a wide variety of insects, vertebrate pests, plant pests, and weeds.
Uses, identifies, stores, transports, handles, mixes, and disposes of toxic chemicals and media.
Coordinates work with others within and outside the facility and advises on preventive measures.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, with rotating days off and mid-shift days.

Qualifications
Certification: Must possess a current and valid state Pesticide Applicator certification. Please submit a copy of your certification with your application to receive credit.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: May lift and handle material weighing over 50 pounds and carries chemical solutions weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods. Employee may work in cramped and uncomfortable positions. Frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable conditions may be encountered. May move furniture, equipment, etc., as part of the treatment process.
Employee may complete assignments indoors or outdoors. May encounter heat, cold, dust, dirt, mud, unpleasant odors, etc. May be exposed to areas with minimal ventilation and/or limited access. May be required to wear necessary safety equipment (i.e., respirators, gloves, and other personal protective devices) while completing and preparing all applications.
