About the Position: This position is located at the Provost Marshal Department at Tripler Army Medical Center on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans' Preference so long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applications will be accepted by those without veterans preference BUT those applications will only be considered if there are no applicants with veterans preference available to consider.
Duties
Lead guard personnel in the daily activities to include: walking patrol, vehicle patrol, static post, traffic control, investigations, incident response, and command center operations.
Inspect guards for proper equipment and uniform and ensures weapons have been cleared and placed on safe.
Provide protective measures against trespass, theft, fire, personal injuries, criminal incidents, and accidental or willful damage and destruction.
Respond to potential criminal acts and confiscates contraband.
Monitor the movement of government and personal property with the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- This position may be designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
- Employee must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a Criminal History Background Check (CHBC).
- May require the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis which may include weekends/holidays.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
- This position requires successful graduation from a USAMPS-accredited academy in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56; and Field Training Program (FTP) within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires successful completion of semiannual weapons qualification testing within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license while holding this position.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain and Individual Reliability Program (IRP) certification within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to pass an initial and annual physical ability test (PAT) (must pass initial PAT within 30 days of hiring date).
- This position requires the incumbent to wear uniform and/or protective clothing.
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid certification within 6 months of employment.

Basic Requirement:
Specialized Experience: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. For Security Guard positions in a hospital setting, experience as a psychiatric nursing assistant or a similar position safeguarding patients is qualifying
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) conducting patrols of installation grounds to detect suspicious activities of individuals or items; 2) controlling access of vehicles, pedestrians, and visitors into gated installations; and 3) responding to complaints or alarms to report to appropriate personnel. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
