About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency, Naval Hospital Guam, Directorate of Administration, Patient Administration, Agana Height, Guam.

Duties
Analyzes the patient medical records to identify inaccurately coded services in accordance with federal coding regulations and guidelines.
Provides review and analysis of coding accuracy and compliance statistics and coordinates results with the Coding Manager and Patient Administration Department Head for feed back to the providers.
Prepares reports of findings and recommends staff education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues to maintain at least 97% coding accuracy.
Assists in the development and implementation of a compliance plan that recognizes the judgmental nature of clinical coding to ensure consistency in application.
Consults with and educates physicians on coding practices and conventions in order to provide detailed coding information.
Develops programs and plans for orienting and training medical and ancillary services staff in basic coding techniques and requirements.
Prepares and/or performs medical facility trainings and/or special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- This position requires one of the following license/ certification AHIMA, CCS-P, CCS, RHIT, or AAPC

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes coding medical diagnosis and procedures utilizing current coding guidelines; conducting audits of medical records coding for accuracy and develop programs for orienting and training medical staff in basic coding techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
