The position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center (VAMC) in the Facilities Management Service. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a Pipefitter/Plumber Work Leader with primary duties to inspect, repair, and maintain all plumbing, steam and water systems throughout the campus.
Duties
Major duties include:
- Lead a team of pipefitting employees.
- Distribute and balance workload and tasks among employees.
- Install various types of valves such as relief valves and check valves, pressure regulators, etc.
- Install, modify, repair, and maintain new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as backflow prevention devices/assemblies.
- Install and monitor the operation of high-pressure piping systems and equipment including steam heating, steam generation, vacuum systems, radiators, and circulating pumps.
- Make repairs or replace pressure regulators, relief valves, or vacuum breakers.
- Test systems and equipment for proper pressure.
- Interpret and apply building plans, blueprints, and sketches in the installation of high or low pressure piping systems.
- Determine proper locations to install valves, traps, and unions as needed for proper operation of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment.
- Plan the installation, maintenance, and repair of steam and plumbing fixtures and other equipment involving the use of water, steam, gas, and air as well as all related pipes and pipe fittings, maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer systems.
- Troubleshoot/test various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principle devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers, and other cross connection devices.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be in satisfactory physical and mental condition and fit for duty at all times, excluding body maintenance items such as colds, headaches, and surgical procedures. Work requires good coordination as well as manual dexterity. The incumbent will occasionally work on ladders and in close quarters. Physical effort is required to lift and carry heavy objects. Incumbent is required to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, climb, and lift heavy objects.

Working Conditions: Work is performed throughout the campus where incumbent is subject to abnormal heat and noise. Incumbent will utilize authorized safety equipment when dealing with potential problems that may consist of scalds, electrical shock, gas or chemical fumes. Incumbent is subject to cuts, bruises and burns.
