Serves as a Pipefitter/plumber with primary duties to inspect, repair and maintain all plumbing, steam and water systems throughout the campus. Incumbent works in all areas of the campus and is part of Operations under the Engineering section.
Duties
Some of the duties associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Installs various types of valves such as relief valves and check valves, pressure regulators etc.
Installs, modifies, repairs and maintains new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment such as backflow prevention devices/assemblies.
Installs and monitors the operation of high-pressure piping systems and equipment including steam heating, steam generation, vacuum systems, radiators, and circulating pumps.
Makes repairs or replaces pressure regulators, relief valves, or vacuum breakers.
Maintains and monitors the chlorine dioxide generator.
Tests systems and equipment for proper pressures.
valuates systems and equipment for leak-free joints.
Tests systems and equipment for proper operation.
Evaluates systems and equipment for leak-free joints.
Interprets and applies building plans, blueprints, and sketches in the installation of high or low pressure piping systems.
Uses accepted trade methods and techniques to install any combinations of couplings, unions and joints needed for the operation of the plumbing systems.
Determines proper locations to install valves, traps, and unions as needed for proper operation of a variety of plumbing systems and equipment.
Plans the installation, maintenance and repair of steam and plumbing fixtures and other equipment involving the use of water, steam, gas and air, as well as all related pipes and pipe fittings, maintenance of sanitary and storm sewer systems.
Determines tools, parts, equipment and supplies needed including proper types, sizes and materials.
Uses selected monitoring devices for heat loss and temperature settings and monitoring devices for location underground piping.
Traces and locates the cause of malfunctions in low and high pressure piping systems and equipment.
Troubleshoots/tests various plumbing systems and equipment including backflow prevention devices such as reduced pressure principle devices, double check devices, atmospheric vacuum breakers and other cross connection devices.
Maintains records on equipment repairs/maintenance.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be in satisfactory physical and mental condition and fit for duty. Work requires good coordination as well as manual dexterity. The incumbent will work on ladders and in close quarters. Physical effort is required to lift and carry heavy objects. Incumbent is required to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, climb and lift heavy objects.
