Duties

Serve as Lead Firefighter directing the operation of one or more major pieces of firefighting apparatus. Distribute workload among employees to assure timely mission accomplishment. Perform as a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Technician responding to the presence or potential release of hazardous materials to include CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives). Respond to medical emergencies performing initial and on-going patient care at the first responder level assisting Emergency Medical Technicians. Perform fire prevention inspections in areas where fire hazards are expected to be encountered. Assist in the administration and training of fire crews by directing, instructing and participating in formal and informal training sessions. Participate in inspections, work details, station maintenance, and other daily duties with crewmembers. Develop lesson plans, handouts, or charts on firefighting materials to use during training classes. Prepare incident reports to document emergency or hazardous materials response operations. Develop a plan to contain, control, or mitigate the risk of hazardous materials.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • Must be able to pass pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical examinations IAW DoD 6055.05M to determine fitness for continued performance of the duties of the position.
  • An individual not currently occupying a GS-0081 primary/rigorous position is required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical prior to being placed into this position.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete an annual Job Performance Test.
  • Incumbent must participate in the Fire Division's Fitness and Wellness Program that includes a cardiovascular physical fitness program IAW NFPA 1583 and DODI 6055.06.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and appropriate safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain an Emergency Vehicle Operator's certification to operate vehicles assigned to the Fire Protection and Prevention Division.
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete an annual emergency vehicle operator's course.
  • Position is "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • This position requires you to work 72 hours per week (144 hours per pay period) which includes nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position may require the incumbent to travel by air and/or ground.
  • This position requires the incumbent to maintain a functioning telephone to aid in contact during recall and/or emergency situations.

Certifications: In addition to the above requirements, this position requires that the incumbent possess and maintain the following DoD IFSAC or Pro-Board issued certifications: Firefighter I, Firefighter II, HAZMAT Technician, Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator - Pumper, Driver Operator - Aerial, Driver Operator - Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), Fire Officer I, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, and a State or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) License.
