The purpose of the position is concerned with inventorying and monitoring exotic plants; leading field crews in exotic plant eradication; carrying out field studies on plants and plant ecology; using innovative techniques like beaver dam analogs (BDAs), gully stuffing, and rappelling for habitat enhancement and invasive vegetation control work; developing improved methods of controlling weeds and plant diseases; and similar work usually concerned with higher plant life.

Duties

Vegetation management, habitat stewardship, and work controlling invasive plants. Implementation of inventory and monitoring of natural resources. Project management. Developing and implementing work plans. Managing contractors and work groups. Supervising interns and volunteer groups. Communication and collaboration. Ability to work with interdisciplinary staff of different levels. Mapping natural resources, data entry and management, data analysis, and reporting. TERM POSITION This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of two years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-07/19/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: Have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service. Specialized experience for Biological Science Technician is experience which demonstrates that you have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position Examples of qualifying specialized experience include work involving biological science support such as: collecting, analyzing and processing samples, performing laboratory work, assisting in the management of field projects, collecting, processing and managing field data, and performing habitat restoration through management of exotics and/or native planting. Use statistical methods and procedures to perform testing of field data collected. Installs, operates, and maintains resource management equipment (tools, sampling and monitoring, photographic, and laboratory equipment) prepares graphs, charts, and illustrations for reports and technical publications relating to plant management activities. Assist in the development of improved methods of controlling weeds and plant diseases or other related work etc. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Have successfully completed one (1) full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position. NOTE: Graduate education meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one (1) year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. NOTE: IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must document your coursework and/or degree completed in your resume or other application materials you submit. You must submit a copy of your transcripts that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, grade received, and date completed. If you are qualifying based on education and you do not submit specific coursework information as described previously, your application may be rated not qualified for consideration. (A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected). You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: have a combination of education and experience. Completion of a percentage of the specialized experience and education listed above and when combined totals 100%. NOTE: If you are qualifying based in part, upon education, you MUST submit a copy of your transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) terrestrial vegetation monitoring or research; (2) conducting field work to collect vegetation cover or abundance data using established plot or transect sampling methods; (3) field identification of plants to the genus and species level; (4) processing vegetation datasets for quality control; (5) managing vegetation datasets within complex databases; (6) editing guidance documents on field methods and data processing for clarity; and (7) performing habitat restoration through management of exotics and/or native planting. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: have One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position (such as horticulture, arboriculture, biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture). You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. I completed courses equivalent to a major in one of the above disciplines listed in A above plus appropriate experience or additional education. Note: The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. and experience as described above. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
