This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties
The primary purpose of this position is: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) enlisted position located in the Maintenance Squadron, Inspection Branch or Maintenance Flight Branch. The purpose of this position is to serve as branch supervisor over subordinate supervisors and employees engaged in inspection, condition evaluation, test, repair, modification and overhaul of aircraft assemblies, components, and parts in a scheduled maintenance environment. Additionally, trains reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 - Aircraft Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to lead or supervise as an Aircraft Mechanic Supervisor.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1: Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised. Knowledge in troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems.
2: Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment.
3: Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures. Knowledge and practical application of MIS (e.g. CAMS, GO-81) programs.
4: Knowledge in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment.
5: Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
6: Ability to plan and organize work assignments to include determining resources required to accomplish mission.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:
1: This is an ART enlisted position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities.
2: The incumbent must obtain and retain the appropriate security clearance level designated for the position.
3: This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing as a condition of employment. Drug Test requirement was modified with AFI 90-508, Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program, 28 August 2014; Certified Current 18 December 2015 which supersedes AFI 44-107, 7 April 2010. Positions covered by this SPD must be reviewed for proper "Testing Designated Position (TDP)" coding to comply with the AF Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program (AFI 90-508). Drug testing is a condition of employment.
4: The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station.
5: The incumbent may be required to work overtime to meet workload demands.
6: Performs other duties as assigned.
FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 pounds). Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.). Hours of straight pulling are 1 hour per week. Hours of pushing is 1 hour per week. Reaching above shoulder. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 hours per week. Hours of standing are 10 hours per week. Hours of crawling are 1 hour per week. Hours of kneeling are 1 hour per week Hours of repeated bending are 3 hours per week. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, or motor vehicle may be required. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 inches to Jaeger 1 to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing (with or without aid).
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive noise, intermittent. Constant noise. Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. Working around machinery with moving parts. Working around moving objects or vehicles. Working closely with others.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
