You will serve as a TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANT in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PSNS and IMF.
This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.
Duties
You will perform the following duties under close guidance and supervision:
You will provide civilian and military travel services and travel arrangements and assist Shipyard civilian and military personnel on regulations and procedures pertaining to travel and transportation matters.
You will resolve travel problems associated with hotels and rental car arrangements, travel advances, partial claims and use of government sponsored charge card.
You will obtain all necessary information for travel orders from travel request forms.
You will be responsible for administering and interpreting Shipyard policies on travel.
You will compose and type various memoranda associated with travel functions.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide Department of Navy employees career growth opportunities who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-06 with a full performance level of GS-07.
Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions.
This recruitment is open to current UIC 4523A employees with GS-06 or WG-04 (or higher) equivalent level experience demonstrating the ability to interpret and apply travel and transportation regulations and procedures, in order to provide travel and transportation support services for an organization.

Must be a current permanent employee serving under a competitive appointment, or under a time-limited or excepted appointment that provides for noncompetitive conversion to a permanent appointment (e.g., VRA, Schedule A)
Employees must be GS-06 or WG-04 (or higher) to be eligible for this opportunity
