You will serve as a SUPERVISORY ENGINEER OR SUPERVISORY SCIENTIST branch head in Unmanned Undersea Systems Operations Branch, Code 4531 the of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI.
This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 and GS-13.
Duties
You will serve as the Supervisory Engineer or Supervisory Scientist (Branch Head) for the Unmanned Undersea Systems Operations Branch, Code 453.
You will be responsible for the development and branch expertise in autonomous control of sensors, payloads, vehicle performance, and decision making.
You will provide support for the unmanned systems laboratory and in-water operations, payload integration and assessments, technology and capability insertion and assessments, sensor development and integration, modeling and simulation.
You will develop personnel that support for the unmanned systems laboratory and in-water operations, payload integration, assessments, technology, capability, insertion, assessments, sensor development and integration, modeling and simulation.
You will be responsible for the execution of the technical tasking assigned to Code 4531.
You will develop or manage personnel processes to ensure the maintenance of knowledge, skills, equipment, and facilities necessary to fulfill tasks and the organization's mission.
You will be responsible as the branch head to focus on employee development via individual development plans and conducting periodic performance appraisals.
You will provide technical and management oversight and day-to-day supervision of employees to ensure delivery and quality of all products assigned to their organization.
You will serve as first-line supervisor for all branch civilian personnel.
You will ensure that technical and business processes within branch are operating effectively and be responsible for addressing any problems, as they arise.
You will work with Technical Project Managers and other line managers to assess product status and correct/mitigate issues and risks.
You will require knowledge of autonomous systems operations and sensor development for autonomous systems.
You will require knowledge of Unmanned Undersea Systems and programs and the ability to promote and advance proposals for new applications
beneficial to the submarine and surface ship community.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.
- You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications
This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineering Series 0801, Oceanography Series 1360, Computer Science Series 1550. TO QUALIFY FOR THE SUPVISORY ENGINEER OR SUPERVISORY SCIENTIST ND-0801/1360/1550:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-03 (GS-09-11 Equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: as a professional engineer or scientist applying systems engineering principles or practices to provide administrative, financial, or technical guidance on projects in support of submarine or undersea test and evaluation.

Professional Engineering Series (0801) - Degree:
A professional engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college or university; OR a degree with curriculum in differential and integral calculus, with additional courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics; or electronics;
OR
Professional Engineering Series (0801) - Substitution of Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering; and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following: (a) professional registration, (b) evidence of successfully passing the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination; (c) successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified above; or (d) successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering provided that it included at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. 1360 Oceanography Series: Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.

1360 Oceanography Series: Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.
1550-Computer Science Series: A degree in computer science; or a degree with at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of these 30 semester hours must have been in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.
