Duties

As an Administrative Assistant, you will be assigned to the Administrative Division in the Sacramento office. Duties include (but are not limited to): Serve as timekeeper to the district main office employees. Serve as supply clerk for district and branch offices: order, stock, and maintain proper levels of office supplies. Serve as the Assistant Property Custodian responsible for updating and maintaining accurate accountable property database. Act as back-up to receptionist: receive telephone calls and visitors to the office, control access to the office, meter and process outgoing mail each day, etc. Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.

Qualifications

Note: In order to be considered "qualified" for this position, your specialized experience must be described in your resume. Please be sure that your resume clearly defines any and all of the specialized experience that you may have. If your specialized experience is not clearly detailed in your resume, you may not be considered for this position. The USAO cannot assume what duties were/are accomplished based on a job title. GS-5: To be eligible at the GS-5 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level; or four years of education above the high school level; or a combination of both specialized experience and education as explained below. Specialized experience is defined as experience gained in an office or other environment where the incumbent was required to perform various responsible administrative duties that would demonstrate a knowledge of a wide range of administrative concepts, practices, and procedures to include timekeeping, supplies, greeting callers and visitors, routing, sorting, and controlling mail, reviewing documents, office automation duties, etc. Combining Education and Experience: Successfully completed post-high school education may be used to meet the total one year of specialized experience requirement equivalent to the GS-4 grade level. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. GS-06: To be eligible at the GS-06 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05. Specialized experience is defined as providing information to visitors and telephone callers; preparing and transmitting time and attendance records; producing a variety of written documents utilizing various office automation software; receiving, routing, distributing, and controlling of packages, mail, and other forms of written communication; entering information into a database and/or spreadsheet; and assists in maintaining the accuracy of the property management system by adding accountable property and editing location information as needed. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
