This position is located within the Phoenix Indian Medical Center located in Phoenix, AZ. The Director of Public Health Nursing is responsible for managing a comprehensive nursing service which involves supervision of personnel in the performance of nursing and supportive tasks related to the care of individuals and families in AI/AN communities and reservations.
Duties
Incumbent performs the key functions of planning, organizing, directing and reviewing work and administering personnel matters; and
accomplishing nonsupervisory tasks and/or special assignments as required.
Incumbent provides leadership, nursing expertise, program assessment, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of the unit.
Provides skilled nursing care directly to patients in the ambulatory care setting, including coordinating care for patients.
Formulates and implements overall community/public health nursing programs and plans to satisfy varying patient load requirements, priorities for services, and other health care objectives.
Establishes priorities and evaluates PHN services, using techniques such as surveys, field visit studies and others statistical data. Helps design and carry out field investigations, epidemiologic studies and special research projects.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this 0610 occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements,
OR Completed a degree from Foreign Nursing School and have an Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
License: Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0610-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent with particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. The following type of work and/or tasks include: Experience providing professional advanced nursing services in either a clinic, home health, and/or school setting; and independently plan community health activities; and experience teaching and supervising patients and families in techniques of positive health. Work experience in leadership by having direct reports.
