Duties

As a Health Scientist (Extramural Research) you will: Manage and monitor the scientific progress of assigned research awards. Provide programmatic, scientific, and technical assistance relating to the conduct of those awards. Serve as the Scientific Program officer responsible for managing the full range of research grants administered by the Extramural Research Program Office (ERPO). Analyze administrative processes and/or agency programs. Plan and develop workshops, conferences, and symposia on the status of research in the areas of interest. Serve as a senior adviser in formulating and administering plans and policies designed to meet critical program objectives.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: evaluating and implementing policies in scientific research related to grants, cooperative agreements, contracts, and other public health programs and activities awards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
