This position is located at the Jicarilla Service Unit (JSU) in Dulce, NM. The primary purpose of the position is to provide primary care services, urgent care services and emergent care at the service unit as required by the Clinical Director in this rural, isolated location.
Duties
Provides direct medical care/services to pediatric, geriatric, adolescent and adult patients.
Provides therapeutic and preventative health services to individual patients, family members and patient groups in an outpatient setting, as well as acute and urgent health services to individual patients in an urgent care setting.
Assesses and diagnoses illnesses and medical care needs and sets up a plan of action or treatment plans.
Provides guidance to staff, tribal members, health board and tribal leaders on relevant health care issues.
Makes decisions concerning needs of patients with physicians and designated consultants.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education
Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. In addition, I have successfully completed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination. Note: You must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification.
Licensure
In order to qualify for this position, you must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate that you have completed a minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level (comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level, obtained in either public or private sector) and have completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program. Experience includes providing comprehensive preventive and therapeutic healthcare services to all age groups that includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses, formulating and implementing treatment plans, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, educating and counseling patients, and collaborating with physicians concerning patient care and management.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
