This position is located at the Jicarilla Service Unit (JSU), in Dulce, NM. The primary purpose of the position is to provide primary care services, urgent care services and emergent care at the service unit as required by the Clinical Director in our rural, isolated location.

Duties

Participates directly in the medical care of patients, performing functions to the extent delineated by medical staff privileging process. Provides direct care/services to pediatric, geriatric, adolescent and adult patients. Provides comprehensive therapeutic and preventative health services to individual patients, family members and patient groups in an outpatient setting. Provides acute and urgent health services to individual patients in an urgent care setting. Assesses and diagnoses needs and sets up a plan of action to meet identified needs by providing health services to individuals and families. Serves as primary provider of medical and medically related services to individuals. Such services may focus on specific age populations such as child and adolescent health and life span issues such as reproductive and women's health and acuity of care such as urgent care and emergent care. Applies practitioner skills in all phases of health care services.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Individual Occupational Requirements Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. Basic Requirements All applicants must meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (external link) (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (external link) (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (external link) (CME) and re-certification. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-7 (or equivalent) Grade Level Applicants must meet at least one of the following requirements: Completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program (certificate of completion, associate degree, bachelor's degree); or Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related health care or health related science and graduation from an accredited physician assistant educational program. Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) and above Grade Level A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant equivalent to the next lower grade level andcompletion of an accredited physician assistant educational program is required. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience includes providing comprehensive preventive and therapeutic healthcare services to all age groups that includes assessment, diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses, formulate and implement treatment plans, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, educate and counsel patients, and collaborate with physicians concerning patient care and management. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
