About the Position: Position is located at US Army Cadet Command, 1st Brigade Headquarters, S6, at Fort Knox, KY.
Duties
Responsible for providing technical and training support on IT hardware and software usage for all personnel assigned to the organization.
Serves as technical expert to ensure peripheral equipment, operating systems
and all software is operational.
Uses analytical techniques to analyze computer equipment malfunctions and software errors.
Troubleshoots existing hardware and software systems to ensure workstations are in compliance with organizational procedures.
Provides training to inform users of information and communication system operational requirements
Collaborates with Information Management Officer (IMO) to ensure program is in compliance with Army guidelines.
Serves as assistant Telecommunications Control Officer to ensure accountability of files and records of communications devices.
Provides written documentation (i.e., briefings or fact sheets) to inform users of system changes.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain secret clearance.
- Must be available for frequent and short notice TDY at least 40% of the time.
- Must meet the requirements outlined in the Department of Defense Directive 8140.01, Cyberspace Workforce Management.
- This position requires a pre-placement medical and annual medical surveillance exam in accordance with Occupational Health requirements.
- Selectee is required to satisfactorily complete the appropriate training, obtain and maintain the required certification/recertification for this position as outlined in DoD Publication 8570.01-M, Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license, and any installation, DOD and/or Federal license or certification required for vehicle operated. Must complete the Army Accident Avoidance Course.
- Must be able to repetitively lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds.

Basic Requirement for IT Specialist (Customer Support):
Specialized and Other Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the installation of computer software, providing technical/help desk assistance on computer problems, utilizing established processes to troubleshoot computer software, advising managers on routine information systems (IT) matters. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
(1) Information Technology Customer Support - Provide functional and/or technical support to customers to ensure validation of requirements and delivery of Information Technology capabilities.
(2) Compliance- Knowledge of procedures for assessing, evaluating, and monitoring programs or projects for compliance with Federal laws, regulations, and guidance.
(3) Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
(4) Information Assurance - Knowledge of methods and procedures to protect information systems and data by ensuring their availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree from an accredited or pre-accredited institution in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management; or, three full years of graduate education from an accredited or pre-accredited institution that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
