Duties

The Directorate for STEM Education (EDU) is offering a detailed opportunity to serve as the Senior Advisor for Partnerships in the Office of the Assistant Director (OAD) within the Directorate for STEM Education (EDU). This detail is open to all qualified permanent and rotator NSF employees. The initial appointment will be 120 days, with the possibility to extend up to 365 days in 120-day increments. For purposes of pay and benefits, the selectee will continue to encumber the position from which detailed. The position is in the OAD within EDU. The mission of EDU is to invest in groundbreaking STEM education research that advances the frontiers of science and engineering for society, as well as make critical investments that develop a diverse science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM)-literate public and workforce. EDU's programs are cross-foundational, requiring significant coordination and collaboration across the agency and beyond. The Staff Associate for Partnerships will serve as a member of the EDU leadership team and will be the EDU point of contact on partnership development and implementation, including developing new partnerships, maintaining key partnership relationships, and bringing an understanding of NSF partnership policy and programs to discussions with potential external partners. The Staff Associate for Partnerships will also provide senior-level policy expertise and advice, participate in strategic planning, and represent EDU on internal and external senior-level partnership, policy, and planning committees, taskforces, and working groups. The incumbent will also serve as the Executive Secretary of the EDU Advisory Committee, responsible for overseeing all AC-related activities and operations and assisting with other pertinent EDU activities, such as community outreach and engagement.

Requirements

Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D.or Ed.D in a STEM field, STEM education, or the social, behavioral, and economic sciences, plus after the award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and managerial experience pertinent to the position. Successful candidates will have: Knowledge of STEM education research and of current and emerging trends in STEM and STEM education. Knowledge of STEM education policy issues at the Federal, state, and local levels. Recognized professional standing in STEM, STEM education, and learning sciences communities, as evidenced by a sustained record of scholarship, professional, and leadership activities. Demonstrated ability to anticipate, design, plan, coordinate, and manage policy-related tasks to achieve organizational objectives. Ability to effectively and convincingly present and advocate policies and plans to peer groups, high-level decision-making and policy groups, and Congressional staff, with major attention to STEM education research and policy. Experience with producing proposals, reports, briefs, and other informational materials that can be shared with potential partners in industry, philanthropy, and across the federal government. Develop and implement outreach strategies and partnership plans to engage specific audiences, including community organizations, stakeholders, and diverse communities.
