Duties
This position is primarily located at the Parker Indian Health center but may be required to provide direct patient care services for the Colorado River Service Unit which include Chemehuevi, Peach Springs, Moapa and Supai Dental Clinic. This position reports to the Deputy Chief Dentist.
Major duties:
Performs restoration of simple and compound cavities with standard and prescribed material.
Performs uncomplicated root canal therapy; scaling of calculus and curettage; treating mouth and gum infections; recognizes symptoms of an assortment of systemic diseases and referring cases for medical diagnosis.
Performs prosthetic work involving complicated planning and fabrication of indirect fixed and removable dental restorations.
Plans and executes community dental health programs for oral disease prevention and education.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements
Basic Requirements
Education: Applicant must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administrated by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.
In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below-
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-11:
Applicants who meet the above basic requirements qualify for the GS-11 grade level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GS-12:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: The evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics; OR
Completed a 2-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.
You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
