The Raymond G. Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is currently recruiting for one Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist to work for the Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology Service in Albuquerque, NM. The incumbent plans and directs the radiologic technology program and has full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of subordinate personnel.

Duties

Employees in these assignments plan and direct the radiologic technology program at active, affiliated medical centers with critical care and emergent inpatient services, and have full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of subordinate personnel, including GS-10 DRTs, at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor at the next lower grade level, and may include clerical or administrative support staff. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Overseeing all technical and administrative operation of the Radiologic Technology program. Acting as the primary advisor of all administrative affairs and functions of the service except in those matters directly relating to physicians. Making prompt, mature and intelligent decisions about the work schedules, deadlines, patient priorities, administrative and fiscal matters. Planning the work with subordinates, setting and adjusting the short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work. Finding ways to improve production or increase the quality of diagnostic imaging work. Participating in the management of human resources for the department including selection, promotion, performance appraisal, and award/promotion system. Assuring proper utilization and safe working conditions and acting as an advisor for equipment planning, requesting and is the primary contact for such matters with Engineering Service. Resolving informal complaints of employees or customers, and directs them in process of resolution for formal complaints. Meeting regularly with Administrative Officer and Service Chief to discuss objectives and goals. Directing radiologic student programs; ensuring that employees maintain a high level of skill and meet at least the minimum level of continuing education required for certification and/or licensure. Conducting and actively participating in daily morning huddles, weekly Supervisor staff meetings and modality meetings to exchange information, and discuss policy and procedure changes, safety and medical center issues. Coordinating the integration of the Radiology Department functions with other departments and aspects of overall patient care. Recommending action to the Service Chief and/ or Administrative Officer of Radiology in regard to equipment purchases, modifications and construction within the department. Developing and maintaining an active comprehensive quality assurance/control program that includes image quality assessment, individual technologist performance, equipment performance, continual review and update of protocols, techniques, and competencies. Participating in the compilation and analysis of data on departmental activities and preparing related reports to the Administrative Officer. Coordinating the testing of radiology equipment by in-house engineers and/or outside manufacturers and health physicists. Practicing hospital safety, infection control, universal precaution and radiation safety in accordance with age and/or gender and/or other specific departmental guidelines. Coordinating and leading departmental committees when appropriate. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. CERTIFICATION DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). TRANSCRIPT DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED AT TIME OF APPLICATION. English Language Proficiency: DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and7407(d). May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).Grade Determinations:GS-12 Experience: At least one year of the following types of experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-11) that fully meets the KSAs at that level. Qualifying experience would include (NOTE: this experience must be detailed on your resume to be found qualified for this position): AND The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs: Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs. Ability to serve as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases. Ability to participate in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research. Ability to consult with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc. Ability to assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility. References: VA Handbook 5005/119, Part II, Appendix G25 - Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Qualification Standard Physical Requirements: This position requires heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over, standing, bending, transferring. stooping, stretching, walking, pushing, or pulling without assistance from another patient care provider or significant other. Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Lead Apron) for periods of time. A health examination must be successfully complete prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Employee Health Clinic policy.
