About the Position: This position is with the 81st RSC Safety Office located at Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Evaluate the organization's safety and occupational health program. Determine effectiveness of the safety and occupational health program. Conduct site visits to determine potential safety hazards. Prepare written reports of investigations. Recommend corrective measures to eliminate unsafe work practices. Survey, inspect, and certify outdoor firing ranges. Advise on safety policies and procedures. Review and implement safety campaigns. Investigate and report accidents.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires completion of Army Career Programs (CP) 12 Skill Level-I within 12 months of employment.
  • This position requires a physical examination prior to employment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing a safety or occupational health program; developing and recommending safety and occupational health programs or policies to higher level officials; interpreting, applying and/or developing safety and occupational health laws, regulations, policies, procedures or standards; evaluating existing safety programs; inspecting workplaces to determine possible hazards; applying safety and occupational health knowledge to reduce or control hazards; and conducting safety training. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
