This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (SARSAT) Division (CG-SAR-3), Office of Search and Rescue (CG-SAR), Washington, D.C.

Duties

The incumbent provides legal counsel, advice, and guidance to the U.S. SARSAT Program Manager, as well as Coast Guard officials in Headquarters over a wide spectrum of complex and difficult legal matters pertaining to the U.S. SARSAT Program, a mission-critical and life-saving capability and the U.S. contribution to the International Cospas-Sarsat Programme.

Requirements

  • You may be subject to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Suitable for Federal employment determined by background investigation.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service. See www.sss.gov.

Qualifications

All Candidates must possess a J.D. or LL.B degree from an accredited law school;ANDMust be a member in good standing of the appropriate licensing authority of any state, territory of the United States, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or District of Columbia bar.ANDTo qualify for the GS-14 level position, applicant must have successfully completed at least one full year of professional legal experience as a practicing attorney equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector which will be determine by the nature and complexity of casework and legal issues for which responsible, the level of responsibility exercised, and the degree to which such experience equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position.  Resume must demonstrate that you meet all specialized experience below: Conducting legal research and correctly applying case precedent, statutes, regulations, government policy, and other sources of relevant authority within all required practice areas; AND Preparing legal written and oral correspondence; AND Providing legal advice and recommendations for agency senior leaders and interagency partners.  National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Note: Only education and experience acquired before the filing deadline will be considered.
