This vacancy is for an International Trade Specialist in the International Trade Administration within the Department of Commerce (DOC), International Trade Administration (ITA), Global Markets (GM), Office of Asia.
Duties
As an International Trade Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
Supports the Office Director in the effective administration of the office and its functions, including providing strategic direction to Desk Officers on GM Asia's engagement with host nation officials in Australia, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, and the Pacific Islands.
Primary day-to-day coordinator for the management of GM Asia and Department participation in key bilateral cooperative mechanisms, including the U.S. - Australia Strategic Commercial Dialogue, the U.S. - Korea Supply Chain and Commercial Dialogue, the Japan - U.S. Commercial and Industrial Partnership, and the U.S. - Taiwan Technology Trade and Investment Collaboration Framework. Provide ongoing direction to the Office of East Asia's Desk Officers responsible for each respective mechanism.
Coordinate the office's support for the implementation of the Indo-Pacific for Economic Framework for Prosperity in partner countries in coordination with relevant Department and Embassy IPEF officials and points of contact.
Support the on-boarding of all new Office of East Asia permanent staff, detailees, and interns in coordination with GM Asia Operations, ITA human resources and IT, and Department security offices.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify at the GS-14 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience formulating policies on international trade and/or economic and commercial issues. Experience advising senior officials on Asia-related policy issues on one or more of the following: commercial, economic, political, and business affairs. Experience preparing written documents related to policy or decision memoranda, position papers, briefing materials, talking points, and speeches for senior departmental officials.
