About the Position: Serves as a Staff Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for the U.S. Army Tank automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) located at the Detroit Arsenal.
Duties
Develops, interprets and executes safety and health policy for TACOM.
Drafts and revises safety and occupational health instructions, rules and regulations applicable to industrial and administrative activities.
Develops Safety and Occupational Health workforce communications, coordinates safety office staff actions and taskings for headquarters and subordinate safety offices.
Review plans, programs and guidance to determine the degree of compliance with standards and regulatory criteria.
Advises senior safety professionals within the assigned area on the status of the safety and occupational health programs.
Recommends changes in the design of work program to meet new safety and occupational health standards.
Coordinates services of industrial hygienists and occupational health nurse as deemed necessary to accomplish evaluations.
Seeks cooperation of supervisors to eliminate unsafe working conditions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position requires that the selected candidate must already have or be able to achieve a Professional Certificate of Safety and Occupational Health (PCSOH) CP-12 Level One Certificate within 12 months of entry on duty.
- This position requires that the selected candidate must already have or be able to achieve an Explosives Safety Level One certificate within 12 months of entry on duty.
- This position requires that the selected candidate must be able to achieve a Professional Certificate of Industrial Safety within 3 years of entry on duty.

Specialized Experience: Your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience to include: 1) Coordinating communication requirements for a large organization safety program to ensure accuracy; 2) Conducting investigations of accidents/perform risk assessments to develop methods for prevention; and 3) Issuing safety and occupational health surveys to identify risk potential involving hazardous work environments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
