As a Supervisory Dispatcher (Public Safety), you will direct the work of six permanent and one seasonal dispatchers at the Shenandoah Regional Communication Center, which handles all emergency and law enforcement traffic for Shenandoah National Park, Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, George Washington's Birthplace National Monument and Thomas Stone National Historic Site on a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week basis.

Duties

Serves as an emergency call taker and law enforcement dispatcher, handling a high volume of telephone calls while recording information, determining priority, perform caller interrogation and relaying information to the proper personnel Coordinates rescue, ambulance, helicopter operations of various agencies with National Park Service personnel Accesses multiple law enforcement databases and programs, providing technical advice, assistance, support and information to law enforcement staff Operates a multi-channel/multi-resource radio communications system; Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system; and an interstate/local teletype system Queries and enters records in the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) Prepares and compiles basic reports and memorandums relating to communication center’s activities as needed for field operators and supervisors Operates as a wildland fire dispatcher, providing flight following services, resource ordering, placing resources on assignments, notifying appropriate staff and record keeping Supervises staff by providing scheduling shifts, assigning work, approving leave, and performing quality reviews of employee work

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • May be subject to a one-year probationary period, including a one year supervisory probation.
  • All requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Status candidates must meet-time-in-grade requirements.
  • You will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • This position is designated as emergency/essential. The position may require you to work weekends, nights, holidays overtime, and overnight shifts. Shifts and days off are subject to change.
  • This position does not require a uniform, but the selectee must adhere to agency dress code for non­-uniformed personnel while on duty.
  • Recruitment and relocation incentives may be authorized.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain Public Safety Telecommunicator and Emergency Medical Dispatch certifications.

Qualifications

In order to be qualified for this position, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-8 in the Federal service receiving and evaluating requests for emergency services in order to dispatch first responders; querying law enforcement databases to gather information (e.g. warrants, motor vehicle records) to assist law enforcement operations; and coordinating emergency response efforts between multiple jurisdictions or during multiple, simultaneous incidents. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
