Duties
This position serves as a Firearms Training Instructor for the Firearms Training Division, Training Services
Bureau (TSB), United States Capitol Police (USCP). For the Washington, DC positions other assigned work locations include Cheltenham, MD, Quantico, VA, Ft. Meade, MD and/or other designated
training facilities. There is 1 vacant position for the FLETC
Glynco, Georgia location.The Training Instructor (Firearms) performs a variety of duties as listed
below, including but not limited to: Presents weapons training programs and courses for the Department and Bureau.Provides comprehensive instruction
in the safe, proficient, and tactical use of Department- issued firearms that include
handguns, shotguns, rifles, and submachine guns, etc. Responsibilities include
weapon maintenance and armoring. Conducts practical exercises with a
variety of weapons. Evaluates student performance and determines
qualification level. Sets up, maintains, and manages the range.
Develops student evaluation systems relevant to each firearm training
program. Scores sworn employees and makes the initial determination whether they qualify
or fail to qualify to meet Departmental standards. Analyzes and exercises independent judgment and discretion in making recommendations to
management on training policies and other personnel actions. Plans and develops lesson plans and uses diverse instructional methods in order
to present law enforcement subjects in an effective and efficient manner.
Participates in the research, planning, analysis and decision-making processes
for the development and delivery of training courses. Provides instruction on
topics from approved course materials and instructional plans for sworn
employees. Serves as an adjunct instructor in support of all TSB course
curriculums, to include Taser and Virtra (simulator).
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet
the education and/or experience requirements described below.1. Must be a USCP Officer below the
rank of Sergeant and have been promoted to the rank of Private First Class
(PFC) by the closing date of this announcement. 2. Must be in full and unrestricted duty status as of the closing date of this
announcement. 3. Must not be in restricted leave status as of the closing date of this
announcement.4. Must possess a valid driver's
license.5. Must be able to work at multiple
range sites throughout the Washington Metropolitan area to include Quantico,
Cheltenham, Ft. Meade and Rayburn as required. (Washington, DC positions only) 6. Must possess a minimum level of firearms proficiency demonstrated by a range
score of 255.7. Must successfully complete LEITP
and FITP to achieve certification. 8. Must submit to semi-annual blood and hearing tests. 9. Must be able to work rotating hours and shifts to include days,
evenings and midnight shifts. Additional Duty required as needed. 10. Must pass range
safety officer and emergency medical technician exams to fulfill range
requirements. For Georgia only:In addition to the qualifications (1-10) listed above: Must attend FLETC in-service training and complete their required computer-based training. Must complete the Glock Armorer certification and FLETC’s Use of Force Training Must assist and participate in ROC/agent trainees’ agency-specific, after
hours, physical conditioning classes that are designed to assist recruits/agent
trainees in passing USCP fitness standards (ROPAT). Must work with other weapons other than USCP issued handgun.
