About the position: This position is located on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. This is a regular part-time category position with guaranteed 20 hours per week, may work up to 40 hours per week. Duties

Drives one or more types of passenger buses which 16+ passengers. Drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs on and off the installation, such as touring trips to historic locations and recreation events/facilities. Reads maps and judges road/traffic conditions to determine the shortest and safest route. Provides friendly, polite, and courteous service. Enforces passenger seatbelt use. May check I.D. cards to ensure authorization of passengers as required. Performs operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, cleaning and washing of vehicles and performing inspection checklists to ensure safe and proper operation. Transport vehicles off installation and coordinate repairs with private companies. Maintains records and documents actions on operator inspection checklists/forms and accident/incident reports. Uses two-way radio (or other device) to maintain communications with dispatcher/supervisor on assignments and locations. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Loads and unloads heavy boxes, bulky supplies, and materials to and from trucks, dollies, etc., moves heavy boxes, cartons, luggage by hand, hand truck, or dolly. Opens crates and boxes using crowbars, and bands using shears. Stacks boxes and cartons where directed. Using a shovel, hand tamps, rakes, and drivable equipment to loosen dirt, fill holes, and level bumps/low places to mitigate program safety concerns. Assists with a variety of field maintenance tasks to include, rolling, aerating, seeding, weeding and chalking. Operates hand lawnmowers and riding lawn maintenance equipment; clears small trees and bushes, using handsaws, hatchets, clippers, and small brush clearing machines. Assembles, moves, and arranges furniture as directed. Executes minor facility modifications in accordance with Child and Youth Program regulations (i.e. installation of finger guards). Clears snow from sidewalks and points of emergency egress using snowblowers, plows, shovels, and ice clearing equipment. Performs full range of facility manager functions to include keeping outside of building clean of trash and paper, changing light bulbs, and performing minor facility maintenance. Cleans parking lot and entryway as necessary. Tracks assigned and completed work via paper and digital means. Utilizes computer-based programs to report work order status, time spent on task, and necessary follow-up. Frequently engages with flight level leaders to ensure completion of tasks associated with inspections and regulatory requirements. Completes inventories of maintenance equipment and reports needs to program directors for acquisition. Receives and inspects shipments to ensure proper pickup and delivery of orders. Properly stores and transports a broad range of materials and items, to include universal waste. Pick-up and distribute official mail for 11 programs. Requirements

  • This position requires satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with Air Force and DoD policy, and a Child Care Tier 1 background investigation.
  • This position has been identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • This position has physical lifting requirement which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
  • This position requires the incumbent to be able to obtain, maintain, and provide evidence of current immunizations this includes annual influenza vaccinations and be free of all communicable diseases.
  • This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Commercial Driver's License, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma.

Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must speak, read and write English. Must have experience which demonstrates knowledge of and skill in operating buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers; traffic and safety regulations, practices and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation (buses); and passenger safety rules. In addition, must have experience which demonstrates the ability to: communicate orally; be courteous; judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route; interpret instructions, specifications related to motor vehicle operation (buses); perform preventive maintenance requirements, diagnose minor maintenance needs, and ensure passenger safety. Must have experience which demonstrated the ability to operate, control and clean heavy powered equipment. Requires reaching, turning or moving hands, arms, feet and legs; associated duties require stooping, bending and climbing. Completion of CPR and First Aid training is desirable. Must be at least 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent). Must be physically able to frequently lift and carry heavy objects weighing more than 50 pounds. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical, maintain current immunizations and be physically and behaviorally capable of performing the duties of the job. Must possess an appropriate, valid driver's license as required by local/state law. Must hold a current Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or be able to obtain one within 6 months of employment. Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug test. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI), State Criminal History Repository Check (SCHRC), and Installation Records Check (IRC).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
