About the Position: This position is at DEVCOM, SRD/Systems Readiness Directorate, Aviation and Missile Center located at Redstone Arsenal, AL.

Duties

Lead and conduct engineering analysis, work technical integration of engineering design. Perform development, airworthiness qualification, and continued airworthiness engineering activities. Investigate Safety-of-Flight (SoF) issues, assist in accident investigations, write and present reports and presentations, and manage multiple technical tasks and customers. Plan, organize, and manage qualification programs, support airworthiness qualification for fielded aircraft/AGSE systems or components, and help resolve anomalies with field units. Determine test and airworthiness qualification requirements for development, production and fielding of components going on fixed wing aircraft, rotary - wing aircraft, and/or unmanned aerial vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Selectee must be able to submit a OGE 450, Financial Disclosure Statement at the time of appointment and annually, thereafter.
  • Business travel is required approximately 20% of the time.
  • Selectee may need to provide a copy of their official transcripts within 30 days of their appointment date.

Applicants MUST provide a copy of your transcripts with your application package to be considered for the position BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Possess a degree in Engineering. Degree-- To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. -or- Possess a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Professional Registration or Licensure-- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration. For example, an applicant who attains registration through a State Board's eminence provision as a manufacturing engineer typically would be rated eligible only for manufacturing engineering positions. -or- Possess a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. -or- Possess a combination of education and experience-- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Specified Academic Courses -- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional Engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A. -or- Possess a combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by: Related Curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions. (The above examples of related curricula are not all-inclusive.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Some Federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for specialized experience is permitted. To qualify for the DB-04, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level (DB-03) Equivalent GS-12/14 grade level, which includes experience in engineering analysis, work technical integration of engineering design, determine test and airworthiness qualification requirements for development, production and fielding of components going on fixed wing aircraft, rotary - wing aircraft, and/or unmanned aerial vehicles. Experience in leadership, complex project management, planning and evaluating organizational efforts, and oral and written communication.
