About the Position: Incumbent serves as a Lead Public Safety Dispatcher providing emergency response dispatching of police, fire and medical services to the public by answering emergency 911calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment.

Duties

Ensures that the organizations strategic plan, mission, vision and values are communicated to the team and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans and work products and services. Coaches the team in the selection/application of appropriate problem-solving methods/techniques, provide advice on work methods, practices and procedures, and assist the team and/or individual members to identify the parameters of a viable solution. Maintains current knowledge of operations and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. Responsible for the receipt and effective evaluation of emergency calls; determining nature of call; prioritizing emergency and non-emergency calls; identify the level of response necessary to provide additional information to the responding units. Provides emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using the local authority emergency medical dispatch system. Monitors status and availability of police, fire and medical units to assure an appropriate response is made. Maintains reports and retrieves needed statistical information using fire incident reporting system(s). Train new employees on standard operating procedures, internal policies, and industry requirements.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time. The work is performed in a highly stressful, restricted office environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR; DoD Telecommunicator I and II; DoD HAZMAT Awareness certification; APSIN (Alaska Public Safety Information Network); and Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.
  • This is a drug testing designated position subject to random drug tests. Employee must pass screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and subsequent periodic drug screening thereafter.
  • Must be able to work shifts, overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.
