Duties
Serves as a Personnel Security Specialist in the Security Operations Branch.
Initiates security clearance actions for applicants for entry into employment and for employees for retention in employment with DISA.
Determines the suitability of applicants and makes appropriate recommendations to Chief of Security.
Processes initial and periodic updates for Background Investigations for civilians and military personnel being considered for employment with DISA.
Provides advisory services to managers and field offices nation-wide regarding personnel security.

- This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- This is a designated drug testing position.
- This position has been identified as a Defense Security Position (DSP). Individuals occupying positions designated as DSPs are required to meet certification requirements of the Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) program.
Qualifications
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-11within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.
Specialized experience is defined as experience interpreting regulations, and guidelines related to security, including the requirements for handling, transporting, and proper reporting of security incidents and screening personnel to determine security requirements.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education is not substitutable for specialized experience for this grade level.
