The position is located at Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Administrative Services, Quarters Unit, Kayenta, Arizona. The incumbent performs work involved in the maintenance and repair of Clinic Facilities and 80 Government Quarters by performing trades such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and other related maintenance and repair.
Duties

Electrical - Removes, replaces, tightens, splices, solders, and insulates defective wiring, controls equipment and fixtures such as; locates broken and bare wiring, burned out switches and relays, loose fittings and connections, damaged light fixtures, etc.
HVAC Repair - Makes repairs and adjustments to Air Conditioning and Heating systems within the clinic facilities and some government quarters with split heating/cooling systems; removes, repairs, and replaces pumps, valves, compressors and radiator for A/C units.
Plumbing - Installs plumbing equipment such as sinks, lavatories, tubs, showers, and hot water heaters; modifies and repair water and waste disposal systems by clearing stoppages in sewer lines, drain pipes and fixtures; diagnosis malfunctions in the systems and replaces defective component parts.
Carpentry - Erects new structures and modifies existing structures; determines dimensions, type structure, location and type of windows, doors to be installed, and material to be used in construction; selects sill timber, cutting, squaring, and mortising to required dimension. Nails or bolts sill to foundation, level with spirit level and wedges; cuts and erects floor joists, wall studs, plated, and places braces at point of stress.
Painting - Determines types of water paint, lacquer, enamel, varnish or primer needed, giving consideration to weather, climatic exposure conditions, texture, composition of surfaces to be painted. Patches holes and cracks on surfaces with putty, spackle, or other type fillers. Applies primer and finish coats of paint to prepare exterior surfaces of wooden, metal or concrete structures on various types of clinic facilities and government quarters.
Medical Equipment Repairer - Performs minor repairs and trouble shoots medical equipment in the hospital which includes laboratory, radiology, and dental equipment. Equipment such as vacuum pumps, compressors, feeder, distribution lines and alarm systems for oxygen supply.
Welding and Fabrication -Repairs, modifies, and fabricates metal parts by use of gas shielded welding process. Welds in a vertical, horizontal, flat and overhead positions. Uses hand and power tools required to complete task in welding trade.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
SCREEN-OUT: Do you have the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the work of a Maintenance Mechanic, as described in the vacancy announcement, without more than normal supervision?
Although no specific amount of experience, education, or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Handbook X-118C for the WG-4749 series is used as a basis for qualifications. Applicants must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the elements listed in the Section 25 of the Online Occupational Questionnaire to perform the duties of the position. The job elements of a Maintenance Mechanic are listed below. Your rating will be based on your proficiency in these competencies.
Examples of experience: Performed work in all areas of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, equipment repair, painting, welding, and locksmith. Able to operate heavy equipment such as G-series Skid-steer loader, forklift, Grader, Bobcat, and dump truck. Performs minor preventive maintenance on all equipment and test all equipment for effective/efficient use.
Physical Requirements:The work may require continual standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, reaching above the head, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Occasionally works in awkward and cramped conditions when making repairs, work is sometime performed on ladders and /or scaffolds.
Working Conditions:Work is performed inside and outside the government quarters and occasionally in inclement weather. Work is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Incumbent may perform work where bad smelling fumes are present. Incumbent has frequent exposure to possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, chemical irritations and broken bones while working around machinery and equipment.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience regardless of whether the experience as gained a part-time or full-time occupation. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position they have held. Work experience must contain dates and hours worked per week.
