This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard YARD, Industrial Department, Structural Group, Baltimore, Maryland.

Duties

You will be responsible for ordering and expediting the delivery of fabrication and production materials to meet established work schedules. Must have practical knowledge in the sheet metal, boat joiner, and wood worker trades and know and understand which materials are commonly used.Working for the Coast Guard as a civilian makes you a valuable team member.  Typical duties include:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Applicant is required to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must submit a copy of most recent SF-50, Notice of Personnel Action

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:1. Ability to do the work of the position without greater than normal supervision (SCREENOUT)2. Knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, etc.3. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)4. Use of measuring instruments5. Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment7. Knowledge of materialNational Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
