About the Position: This position is a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) at Behavioral Health Clinic located at West Point, New York.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
Duties
Complete request forms, manually or automated, for individual patient orders, blood work and other requests.
Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.
Receive patients and visitors as the initial point of contact, in person or telephonically.
Record and relay messages and/or redirect calls.
Maintain all patients' records, both electronic and paper, according to regulation ensuring each entry contains proper patient and health care provider identification.
Oversee the clerical duties inherent to the in processing (reception), care and out processing (transition) of outpatients, families/caregivers and guests.
Respond to emergency calls and notifies emergency medical personnel.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position may require occasional temporary duty travel - 5%.
- This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors.
- This position has been designated “Mission Essential”.
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent may be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical or receptionist duties such as record keeping, answering calls, receiving patients, scheduling medical appointments; providing information to patients, medical staff, or the public; maintaining electronic and paper patient records, and using a computer and office automation software or programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
