About the Position: This position serves as an Computer Scientist DB-1550-04 in DEVCOM Analysis Center at Redstone Arsenal AL. You will serve as a Computer Scientist applying advanced techniques and methods to model Soldier system interactions and tasks. The pay band DB-04 is equivalent to the former GS-14 Step 1 to GS-15 step 10 grade level.

Duties

Serves as a Computer Scientist responsible for human system integration modeling analysis. Development of operational requirements for use in modeling performance characteristics of Army Systems. The operational requirements describe the list of tasks the Soldier must perform to successfully perform a mission and the amount of basic human capability it takes to perform each task. Interpret design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of computing systems and computational techniques. Develops reports and briefings highlighting the human system integration modeling analysis. Primary authors of a number of important publications, of which at least some have had a major impact on advancing the field, accepted as definitive of important areas of it, or have otherwise been recognized as highly innovative and creative.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a SECRET security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a three year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.

Basic Requirement for COMPUTER SCIENTIST - 1550: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) applying advanced techniques and methods to develop models of Soldier system interactions, 2)interpreting design characteristics, limitations, and potential applications of computing systems and computational techniques, 3) providing leadership to a team responsible for human system integration (HSI) across a variant of technical portfolio in support of Army system acquisition; and 4)develops operational requirements for use in modeling performance characteristics of Army Systems.(The operational requirements describe the list of tasks the Soldier must perform to successfully perform a mission and the amount of basic human capability it takes to perform each task). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower band grade/level position in the federal service (DB 03/GS-12/13).
