You will serve as a Plastic Fabricator Leader (Expert), leading a group to ensure assignments are completed on any of the three shifts assigned, in Shop 64, Production Resources Department of DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY.
Duties
You will serve as the principle Plastic Fabricator Expert for the crew and perform inspections of deficient coatings and work in process to ensure supervisor direction is followed, proper standards and practices are followed and rework in minimized.
You will conduct random surveillance inspections of in-process preservation to ensure quality and compliance with minimum preservation requirements.
You will determine the methods, techniques, materials and devices best suited to perform work with various resins, epoxies, floor coverings, plastic laminates, sound damping, insulation, composite materials and wood.
You will prepare, lay out and direct subordinate crews of up to 20 to apply, manufacture and repair coating materials on wood, metal, glass, synthetic and other surfaces.
You will provide feedback to design engineers on material characteristics, methods and techniques of manufacture and repair directly effecting design specifications (e.g., strength, durability, cost and aerodynamics).

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This position requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing 45 pounds.
- This position requires work onboard ships, climbing ladders, working outside and includes frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and working in confined spaces.
- This position requires exposure to high noise levels.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- This position requires rotating shift work.
