Duties

Implements the speech/language therapy services of the school and provides instruction, assessment, and program planning for students identified with a range of disabilities including intellectual, physical, learning, and emotional. Provides speech/language therapy to students with a variety of speech/language impairments. Collaborates with classroom teachers to facilitate application of therapy gains into classroom activities. Documents student progress through the use of formative and assumptive assessment tools; recognizes and respects diversity. Serves as an informational resource for teachers, students, parents, district personnel, and community organizations;.

Requirements

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • One year trial or probationary period may be required.
  • Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
  • This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.

Qualifications

0472 Speech/Language Pathologist Teacher A master's degree in speech/language pathology is required. Course work should include training in basic audiology and speech disorders. A SLP license issued by a State Board of Health will be only be accepted IF the applicant has completed a SLP internship in a school setting OR they have 7+ years of SLP work experience in a school setting. Otherwise, the Praxis I tests are required OR the applicant must obtain a SLP license issued by a State Board of Education. A second category is not required.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. 1. The work may be evaluated and interpreted by the International Education Research Foundation, Inc., Credential Evaluation Service, Post Office Box 3665, Culver City, CA 90231-3665 or www.ierf.org/ or 310-258-9451.
2. The foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education); and
3. The work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution.
