This position is located in the Physical Therapy Department of the Hopi Health Care Center in Polacca, Arizona. This position involves the participation in the administering of physical therapy treatments by assisting, instruction and working with patients and in other related activities necessary for the operation of the general physical therapy program under the direct supervision of a physical therapist.
Duties
Communicates well verbally and in writing with patients, their family members and the staff at the health clinic including all medical record chart documentation.
Participates actively in departmental continuity quality improvement efforts and overall hospital strategic planning as directed by supervising therapist.
Participates in departmental and clinic-hospital programs to minimize injury and problems of nosocomial infection. Maintains a safe, clean, neat work environment.
Coordinates with other medical facilities and contract health department to schedule patient appointments with these facilities, obtain patient specialty consultation results, and obtains patient post-operative reports following proper procedure through medical records.
Screens telephone calls, refers calls/messages to the appropriate staff member, and/or furnishes the information requested and abides by all HIPAA standards for patient confidentiality.
Keeps equipment and furniture clean. Assists with housekeeping, maintenance and other activities and changes linens.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-04 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience that included work as an assistant to one of the specialized therapies such as occupational, physical, manual arts, corrective, or educational therapy; or experience gained as an assistant or aid in patient care, social work, or psychology where the duties involved actual participation in physical medicine and activities of a hospital or clinic. Examples Include: interview patients to obtain patient registration information; perform scheduling duties; responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of physical therapy equipment, performs basic vitals.
OR completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled.
OR a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
GS-06- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 level, that included work as an assistant to one of the specialized therapies such as occupational, physical, manual arts, corrective, or educational therapy; or experience gained as an assistant or aid in patient care, social work, or psychology where the duties involved actual participation in physical medicine and activities of a hospital or clinic. Examples Include: Assist with scheduling and interviewing patients; monitor supply/inventory levels; perform patient transfers safely and independently. Assist with educating patients and their families and maintains a clean and safe work environment.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Education
There are no education requirements.
