This position is located in the Therapy Department of the Hopi Health Care Center (HHCC) in Polacca, Arizona. The incumbent provides clerical and clinical duties in the therapy department requiring both direct and indirect patient care under the direct supervision of a physical or occupational therapist. This position is fast paced and requires shifting from different tasks based off the immediate needs of the clinicians, staff, and patients.
Duties
Monitor vital signs and blood glucose levels and use independent judgment to discontinue a procedure or therapeutic exercise as indicated and immediately notify supervising therapist.
Assist in educating patients and their families in home exercise programs prescribed and supervised by the physical/occupational therapist based on patient and/or family needs and home environment.
Adjust, fit, and educate patients on any durable medical equipment provided by the therapy department such as crutches, canes, walkers, splints, orthotics etc. and train patients on safe and appropriate care and use of issued equipment under direct guidance and supervision of the physical/occupational therapist.
Assist clerical staff in the scheduling of patients for therapy appointments, coordinate with other medical facilitates and contact health departments to assist in scheduling patients with these facilities, obtain patient specialty consultation results, obtain patient pre and post-operative reports following proper procedure through medical records and contacting third party payors for pre-authorizations for services being rendered.
Maintain an accurate accounting inventory and records of current department supplies and adaptive equipment and will be responsible for the ordering of departmental equipment, general patient care supplies, and any specialty items for specific patients.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level GS-04 in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-05: One (1) year of specialized experience that included work as an assistant to one of the specialized therapies such as occupational, physical, manual arts, corrective, or educational therapy; or experience gained as an assistant or aid in patient care, social work, or psychology where the duties involved actual participation in physical medicine and activities of a hospital or clinic. Examples Include: Monitor vital signs and blood glucose levels; Schedule patients for therapy appointments; Screen and manage telephone calls; Clean and maintain equipment, furniture, machines and/or tools used by therapy department.

completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects appropriate to the position to be filled.

a combination of education and experience that when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for this position. The total percentage equals at least 100 percent to qualify for this GS-05 grade level.
GS-06- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5 level, that included work as an assistant to one of the specialized therapies such as occupational, physical, manual arts, corrective, or educational therapy; or experience gained as an assistant or aid in patient care, social work, or psychology where the duties involved actual participation in physical medicine and activities of a hospital or clinic. Examples Include: Assist in educating patients and their families in home exercise programs prescribed and supervised by the physical/occupational therapist; Adjust, fit, and educate patients on medical equipment provided by the therapy department; Maintain accounting inventory and records of current department supplies and adaptive equipment and will be responsible in the ordering of departmental equipment, general patient care supplies, and any specialty items for specific patients.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

There are no education requirements.
