Duties

Base Seattle provides services to Coast Guard operational and support units to successfully accomplish their missions and to serve the public in their district and area of responsibility (AOR). Base Seattle is committed to providing superior maintenance, medical, administrative, industrial, fitness, and financial products and services. Base Seattle builds partnerships by understanding and anticipating their customer’s needs. Base Seattle is a Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS), Director of Logistics (DOL) field command. The incumbent, Transportation Assistant, serves as the Regional Transportation Officer.

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Background Investigation is required.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

To Qualify for the GS-08 Grade Level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Auditing and validating all monthly and quarterly billing payments for household good shipment and non-temporary storage shipment to ensure that all transactions during the period are reflected and accurately entered. Reviewing, monitoring, and reconciling any discrepancies and updating all computer-based data to ensure timely submission of invoices and control record of transaction. Utilizing the Defense Personnel Properties System (DPS) to approve invoices and generate an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI). Determining mode and method of transportation based on weight of shipment, destination, and type of shipment. Planning, booking, routing personal property, estimating cost savings, time involved, time of arrival, storage and transit involved, and purposes. Maintaining Continuity of Operations (COOP) Procedures. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
