You will serve as the Lead Transportation Assistant with the Health Administration services with the VA Puget Sound, Seattle, Washington division.
Duties
You will coordinate travel related services for Inpatients in Spinal Cord Injury, Nursing Home Care Units, Blind Rehabilitation Program, Domiciliary, extensive Mental Health Program, and an extensive comprehensive specialty and primary care outpatient program.
You will be responsible for all administrative duties related to the Beneficiary Travel and the Patient Funds programs.
You will administer policies relating to the area of travel and patient funds which provides a basis for sound administrative practices.
You will take over escalated issues from other Transportation Assistants and provides guidance to staff and patients to minimize the possibility of unauthorized actions or unfavorable criticism.
You will report to the Travel Supervisor or Mobility Manager and ensures that work assignments of other employees are distributed and balanced in accordance with established workflow and rotation schedule.
You will maintain oversight of the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments and obtain assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs, which cannot be disposed of promptly.
You will be responsible to give on-the-job training to new employees.
You will instruct employees on changes in work procedures and provide them with written instructions and documentation on the changes.
You will maintain current informational knowledge base and answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, and directives.
You will assess the strengths and weaknesses of every subordinate employee to provide an effective and patient-oriented working mechanism throughout the section.
You will perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 08/07/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: determining eligibility, coordinating travel, and arranging lodging for Veterans traveling to their VA appointments; administering policies relating to the area of travel and patient funds which provides a basis for sound administrative practices; advising on escalated issues from other Transportation Assistants and providing guidance to staff and patients to minimize the possibility of unauthorized actions. OR,
EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): I have successfully completed one (1) year of graduate education that is directly related to the duties of the position. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Incumbent works in a well-lit, ventilated, office setting. Duties require sitting a PC/computer most of the 8-hour tour of duty in an ergonomic appropriate environment while assisting customers. Incumbent works in the hospital computer system as well as other electronic based programs. The incumbent may encounter angry and potentially violent customers. Position requires a high level of concentration and coordination. The work involves occasional risk to communicable disease in addition to the routine discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of a hospital setting.
Work Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting within view and hearing of patients and the public. The clerk has direct contact with the Veterans and possible exposure to contagious diseases. Immediate attention is required for patient funds activities, and travel arrangements must be completed timely. Meeting these obligations may present varied demands on the incumbent. Patients may present skeptical, agitated, uncooperative, and some may become hostile or dangerous. The work environment is multifaceted, complex, and demanding.
