This position is located in the Information Technology Division- Arlington, VA. The selectee of this position serves as an IT Specialist (Network Services). You will be responsible for analyzing, installing, configuring, testing, conducting quality assurance reviews, and implementing network systems used for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/ or video formats. This position is in direct support of the HQ Operations Division.

Duties

As an IT Specialist (Network Services) at the GS-2210-13 level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Analyzing, installing, configuring, testing, and conducting quality assurance reviews. Monitoring network capacity and performance and workload. Implementing network systems used for the transmission of information in voice, data, and/or video formats. Ensuring rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services. GS-13 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 grade level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted). You may qualify at the GS-2210-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications: Basic Requirement: You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: 1.Attention to Detail- Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2.Customer Service- Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3.Oral Communication- Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4.Problem Solving- Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. AND Specialized Experience: You must have at least one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: 1. Analyzing current network requirements, architecture, and infrastructures to make recommendations to senior management; 2. Managing all installations, testing, and upgrading regarding components consistent with network architecture; 3. Configuring and optimizing network servers, hubs, routers, firewalls and/or switches to ensure efficient performance and security; 4. Assisting with developing network backups and recovery procedures for an organization; and 5. Monitoring network capacity, performance, and workload to identify and resolve network problems. Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, but the incumbent is required to move computer equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Travel is required in support of USMS wide functions and needs. Work Environment: The work involves a risk of exposure to a wide variety of potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stresses. May be required to be self-sufficient for up to a week or more while deployed (e.g. plan and carry personal food, water, clothing, supplies without needing to rely on outside support). Substantial amounts of uncontrollable, unscheduled overtime with associated travel may be required with extremely short notice. IN DESCRIBING YOUR EXPERIENCE, PLEASE BE CLEAR AND SPECIFIC. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
