Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, San Francisco Field Office, located in San Francisco, California.

Duties

This position will allow you to use your expertise in administrative oversight and assistance to provide substantive support to CBP upper management. Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen the Department's ability to perform homeland security functions by providing services in direct support of operational programs. This position starts at a salary of $128,717.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $167,336.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this Supervisory Mission Support Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing complex administrative services and support to management. Typical work assignments include: Planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising staff who provide full range of mission support services in direct support of operational programs including but not limited to finance, budget, procurement, personnel management, office equipment, and information systems. Identifying ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services at the local level. Adjusting work operations to meet priorities or changing programs or production requirements within available resources with minimum sacrifice of quantity and quality of work. Developing and prescribing procedures, techniques, policy guidance to subordinates to achieve efficiency of services rendered while increasing productivity. Devising new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity problems.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing complex administrative services such as property and fleet management, budget, finance, procurement, personnel, and identifying ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of these services. Developing and prescribing procedures and techniques and devising new methods or procedures for accomplishing work to solve productivity problems. Making decisions and resolving problems involving interpretation of the law or unusual situations requiring interpretation and application of established policies. Coordinating with other organization supervisors and peers to accomplish unit objectives, goals, priorities and deadlines and formulate plans to meet substantial changes in workload. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 07/05/2024. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
