You will serve as a Propulsor Data Analysis Technical Specialist in the Propulsor Acoustics Branch (726) of the Acoustic Signatures Technology Division (Code 72) in the Signatures Department (Dept 70) of CARDEROCK DIV NS. This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to GS-14 through GS-15.

Duties

You will be the primary investigator for development of data analysis techniques and development of mitigation technologies for propulsor and shaftline related performance issues. You will possess intimate knowledge of intermediate and full-scale measurement systems, experimental data acquisition hardware and practices and application of technologies to full-scale assets. You will work closely with Division Technical, Programmatic and Managerial leadership to assure technical excellence of work product, ensure tasking is executed on schedule and deliverables are produced on time. You will actively pursue new techniques and systems to improve beyond current capabilities. You will mentor other employees to develop workforce and ensure technical quality of work product. You will be cognizant of technical goals and objectives for the portfolio of Propulsor Acoustic tasks of multiple sponsors. You will lead and mentor teams and groups of engineers to assure quality analysis of intermediate and full-scale data products.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a General Engineer (0801-series), Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), or an Aerospace Engineer (0861-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
