This is a temporary appointment. Appointment to this position will not convey permanent status and will be for a period not-to-exceed 1039 hours in a service year.
Duties
Administrative Support Assistants independently perform a wide variety of functions related to budget and finance, human resources, natural resources, travel, timekeeping/payroll, correspondence, records, collections, and public contact.
Administrative Support Assistants provide general information concerning office operations to the public both orally and in writing.
They may also serve as a collections officer preparing appropriate receipts, records, and tracking forms; depositing monies and reconcile accounts receivable.
Administrative Support Assistants may be expected to handle incoming/outgoing mail, manage a central filing system, both paper and electronic, and provide assistance in researching and locating files.

Qualifications

GS-4: one year of general experience. General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of an administrative support assistant. OR Successful completion of two years of higher education above high school. OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.
GS-5: one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include preparing general correspondence, entering time and attendance records in an automated payroll system, providing assistance in the completion of records review, inventories, and dispositions in accordance with records schedule. OR Successful completion of four years of higher education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. OR A combination of experience and education to meet total experience.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environments:
The work is typically sedentary located in an adequately lighted, heated and ventilated office environment. Some work may require periods of walking, standing, bending, or driving a motor vehicle. The incumbent may frequently lift relatively light boxes, materials, and supplies and/or carry file folders, copied materials, books, and other similar materials. The work environment may involve everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, mail distribution centers, meeting and training rooms, libraries, or motor vehicles.
Education
