Duties

SUMMARY CONTINUED: The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as a security assistant assigned to the co-located Visitor Control Center (VCC) by reviewing various personnel related documentation for issuance of Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) passes, Security Forces Management Information System (SFMIS) passes and Automated Entry Control Cards (AECC) for guests, visitors and distinguished visitors.   • The employee must be able to obtain and maintain SECRET Security clearance.
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings and weekends.
  • Typing and computer operation is performed, however, a qualified typist is not required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, such as Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, for the GS-0086,Security Clerical and Assistance Series. GENERALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of generalized experience at the next lower grade GS-03, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of generalized experience includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates my ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR EDUCATION: Successfully completed 2 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Have a combination of general experience as described above and education. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Basic knowledge of personnel background checks and investigation processes. Knowledge of security processes and procedures and general clerical office functions Basic knowledge of government and state laws and instructions as they pertain to state law enforcement telecommunications systems, state driving, and housing regulations. Basic knowledge of one or more automated databases associated with a specific security function to support office and security operations and produce a variety of documents and reports. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse group of individuals, using a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Ability to plan, organize work, follow instructions, and accomplish multiple ongoing projects in an efficient manner. Ability to research, analyze, verify, and correlate data to compose information for routine and non-routine reports, inquires and technical correspondence. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
