Duties

As a Supervisory Health Scientist you will: Serve as a Deputy Branch Chief; direct, coordinate, and oversee work through subordinate supervisors. Advise on the development, direction, and coordination of management policies, activities, and operations that support the mission of the Branch. Plan, direct, review, and evaluate Branch activities. Plan, organize, and oversee the activities of the Branch to ensure that staff effectively and efficiently perform critical functions. Serve with delegated authority from the Division Director to approve all registration and inspection related documents prior to issuance to the regulated community. Review and structure branch to optimize use of resources and maximize efficiency and effectiveness of the organization.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: leading, developing, and evaluating scientific and technical aspects of biological containment laboratories and identifying biosafety and security issues using nationally recognized safety and security standards. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
