Duties

Joining the Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology will allow you to use your experience in applications software, policies and procedures. This position starts at a salary of $117,962.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $153,354.00 (GS-13, Step 10). GS Salary: Visit this link to view the locality pay tables by geographic area. In this Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist (Application Software/Security) position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include: Reviewing and interpreting policies, procedures, and strategies that govern the planning, design, delivery, and implementation of application software services throughout the agency by utilizing the latest application development methodologies and processes. Serving as a liaison between the application development team and other various sources such as internal and external customers, vendors, IT management, etc. Coordinating and negotiating emerging issues and changes in project requirements, and advises leadership of issues that are beyond his/her scope to resolve. Providing technical and project management support, performing duties such as planning and conducting projects aimed at improving the efficiency or effectiveness of all CBP program operations; as well as scheduling and presenting technical briefings, and clarifying processes and/or procedures to stakeholders.

Basic Requirement - Individuals must have experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. This experience must be IT-related. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Drafting project plans, identifying resource requirements, assigning tasks to project members, reporting progress; Ensuring customer and management involvement throughout the software development process; Resolving critical issues affecting the configuration of the Information Technology (IT) infrastructure and coordinating the demonstration of new and enhanced applications to customers and management; Investigating, evaluating, and selecting tools and methods for improving productivity and software quality throughout the life cycle; and Assessing the feasibility of adopting new software design technologies within the current systems environment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process by 07/03/2024.
