You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT KEY WEST of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. Duties

You will explain safety and housekeeping rules to maintenance workers. You will use test equipment (e.g., multimeters, circuit tracers, voltmeters, clamp meters, fault locator devices) to detect malfunctions in systems or equipment. You will instruct trades and labor workers of technical principles, procedures, or standards required for safe operations. You will interpret instructions in a group setting to determine specific requirements for each team member.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • May work at a job site or location other than the permanently assigned location.
  • May be required to perform shift work.

  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE. 1) Providing journey level trade oversight to Electricians, Air-Conditioning Mechanics, Heating/Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanics, Industrial Equipment Mechanics, Electronics Mechanics, Sheet Metal Mechanics, or Welders; 2) Planning, laying out, and completing installation, modification, and repair of systems; and 3) Interpreting building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering documents, drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to plan work.
