Duties

You will utilize open-source tools (R, Python) and their latest libraries/packages to develop a wide of range of analytic products to include web-based applications (Shiny), automated scripts, interactive data visualizations, and dashboards. You will clean, transform, and preprocess raw datasets for use in analytic products and to perform exploratory data analysis to gain insights. You will employ best practices for configuration control as well as User Interface (UI) development. You will apply mathematical or statistical theory and methods to collect, organize, interpret, and summarize numerical data to provide usable information. You will convey written information in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience, using correct English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. You will Express thoughts persuasively and uses effective modes to reinforce message retention. You will apply principles, methods, tools for developing, scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating, and managing projects and resources, including technical performance. You will develop networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals. You will perform scientific work that involves designing, developing, and adapting mathematical, statistical, and other scientific methods and techniques to analyze programs. You will provide independent, fiscally focused analysis and recommendations on studies, policies, and capability documents. You will advise other Operations Research Analysts on highly complex and unprecedented problems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: utilizing a broad range of statistical programs to develop and advise on new and improved technologies and concepts to provide operations research analysis, process improvement, funding decision guidance, AND providing leadership and guidance on the resolution of highly complex, unprecedented operations research problems. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Operations Research Series 1515 (opm.gov) Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Degree: in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
