This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate, Office of Science & Engineering (OSE), Operations and Requirements Analysis Division. The primary purpose of this position is overseeing and directing systems and operations analysis for DHS/S&T research and development programs. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Operations Research Analyst, GS-1515-15, your typical work assignments may include: Developing strategic approach and leads execution of systems analysis in support of Component projects and produce artifacts that will enable successful representation of their operational mission. Applying sound project management principles to efficiently and effectively manage systems analysis projects and performers. Managing projects for development or procurement of mathematically informed models and simulations to support analysis of the technologies and systems intended to increase effectiveness of DHS mission and capabilities All DHS-HQ announcements have a 5 business day open period due to the number of applications received. Qualifications

Basic Requirements for 1515 Operations Research Series A Bachelors degree in operations research; OR A Bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. Note: You must submit your transcripts to verify your education. Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: 1) Providing expertise to direct systems analysis activities for projects and programs; 2) Performing scientific work that involves designing, developing, and adapting mathematical, statistical, econometric, and other scientific methods and techniques; 3) Analyzing problems and providing advice and insight about the probable effects of alternative solutions to these problems. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
